FAQ

What do you mean by a “refurbished” PC?

A refurbished item is a pre-owned product that's been evaluated, cleaned, repaired, tested, and sometimes upgraded to a higher specification.

These pre-owned products have also had all the previous data wiped from their disk drives and the settings reset to factory default.

What are the advantages of buying refurbished IT ?

First and most obviously, you cannot beat the price of a refurbished computer. In fact, buying refurbished can offer dramatic savings, from 30-70% off of buying new.

Second, and it might surprise you, but refurbished products are sometimes more dependable than new products. Refurbished computers are going to experience a more rigorous testing and retesting procedures than a new product as they pass through the refurbishment cycle.

Last, but not least, refurbished computers can do everything you need them to do. When you buy refurbished, you are typically buying a computer from the prior generation of business class dependable computers. These computers were originally chosen because they would be able to keep up with the demands of business computing in the future, and were deployed in an environment that demanded much more than that of your average user today.

What are the things to watch out for when buying refurbished IT?

1. Battery degradation –
If the battery has not been replaced during refurbishment and the device is older than 1-2 years, battery degradation can be a factor. ReWorks test all
laptop batteries to ensure that their condition is at least 85% or better, if they fail this test, they are replaced during the production process.

2. Bad visual appearance – If you buy a refurbished laptop you ought to expect some signs of usage. ReWorks grade their product according to the general condition of the units (good, better, best) – cracked plastics are often replaced in order to present a product that looks close to the new condition.

3. May have limited warranty with certain sellers.
All ReWorks product are backed by a solid “no nonsense” 6-month warranty, 30-day money back guarantee on all items (except in the case of batteries, which are classed as a consumable item).

Which PC / Laptop is the correct one for me? And which Brand should I chose?

The older 4th and 5th gen Core i5 and i7 CPUs are still reliable and powerful enough to run allkinds of games and software.

It is not always true that slightly older refurbished machines have less processing power than newer ones. Very often the newer generation CPUs are not exceedingly more powerful but are instead more energy efficient and have newer features. The CPU parameters we are looking at are:

  • number of cores
  • concurrent running threads
  • frequency

Best approach is to pick a proven processor, which compliments your needs, and then chose a computer assembled with it.

For office and home use

In the office and home use segment the need for processing power is not extreme and any 4th, 5th or 6th Gen Intel Corei3/i5 processor is quite sufficient.

You should consider also AMD’s processors. Ryzen3 also has a faster build-in GPU. There are many refurbished choices with good CPUs in the business/home segment.

For professional use

CAD, photo editing and alike require a bit more power. You’ll need to move from Intel’s Corei3 to i5 and even i7 and from AMD’s Ryzen3 to Ryzen 5.

The key here is higher clock speeds.

  • 2.4 GHz to 3.3 GHz 6th Gen Intel Core i5/i7.
  • 3.2 GHz to 3.6 GHz 1st Gen Ryzen 5.
  • 2.8 GHz to 3.6 GHz 7th or 8th Gen Intel Core i5/i7.

For Gaming

Gaming is an interesting category. There are many games, each with their own set of hardware requirements. The type of games you play will guide the choice of CPU and GPU. One thing is sure though: A budget refurbished gaming machine will not be able to run the latest AAA titles on max settings, with high FPS. A PC that is two or three years old is not powerful enough to provide a smooth gaming experience with these new titles. However, there are hundreds of games perfectly suited to older computers.

Choosing a brand

Choosing a reputable computer brand is essential when buying refurbished. Dell, HP and Lenovo are the easy choices for best brands when looking for a dependable computer. These brands are the largest in the world because they produce a powerful computer you can trust, with build and quality standards that lead the industry. ReWorks offer a good mix of Dell, Lenovo and HP brands.
